Her victory over Halep was her first Grand Slam match since January 2016, after serving a 15 month doping ban.

Canadian star Denis Shapovalov caused one of the biggest upsets in his career, the 18 year old beat 8th seed Jo-Wilfred Tsonga 6-4 6-4 7-6.
