Sir Alex Ferguson’s two autobiographies since retiring have confirmed what I believed back then, it was a joint decision and because his views are held in such high esteem at the club, Ferguson was consulted. He also confirmed a few other things, that firstly David Moyes was not the default option. He had lunch with Pep Guardiola in the US during his sabbatical where Pep confirmed he had accepted an offer to take over from Jupp Heynckes at Bayern Munich. Sir Alex and Manchester United also tried to recruit Jose Mourinho but apparently he had already promised Roman that he would return to Chelsea. Note I’ve said apparently because Jose has not confirmed this and he couldn’t because he was still the manager of Chelsea when Sir Alex’s book suggested this conversation occurred. Media houses would have you believe that this is fact LOL. It was only when Carlo Ancelotti turned down the clubs offer in favour of the soon to be vacated seat at Real Madrid that Manchester United opted for David Moyes. It’s also believed that Sir Bobby Charlton, a United legend and the only remaining survivor of the 1958 Munich Air disaster, is not a fan of the Special One and has been quoted as saying that Jose’s action of poking the eye of then assistant manager of Barcelona Tito Vilanovia (may his soul rest in peace) was not the behavior of a Manchester United manager. I tend to agree with that but let’s be honest, Sir Alex was no angel either. Essentially, that is how United ended up with Moyes and then Louis van Gaal. We’ve heard this line of thinking a few times under the new management. We went after Ronaldo and Bale and Neymar and Muller but because we couldn’t get them we ended up with Fellaini and Depay.
So now the media are starting to crank up the heat on Van Gaal, at every press conference he is bombarded with questions about his uncertain future. In his own words, the media have sacked him 3 times already in the past 2 months and in his defense there have been a number of sources who have lead with Headlines about LVG’s sacking, you can’t blame the old man for feeling as though he is no longer wanted by the media. So hypothetically if these growing rumors were true, would Jose Mourinho be a good manager for the club?

The Jose Mourinho of the past 3-4 years is hell bent on creating a siege mentality, us versus them. It seems to work for about 2 years and then it all comes crumbling down around him. Barcelona are so far ahead technically that he realized the only way to bring them down to Madrid’s level was to create a war between the two clubs, which threatened to poison the atmosphere in the Spanish National Side as the majority of the players come from those 2 clubs. The turning point in his Real Madrid tenure was when the Real Madrid and Spanish National Side captain Iker Casillas demanded a truce between Madrid and Barcelona players. Jose didn’t take kindly to this and effectively ended his career at the club he has played for since he was a baby. He also fell out with his star player Cristiano Ronaldo and current Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.
