Orlando Pirates travelled to Thoyandou on Tuesday for the Absa Premiership clash against Black Leopards. Pirates were looking to bounce back from their disappointing losses to Bloem Celtic and Bidvest Wits.
The Buccaneers kicked off the clash with all the possession and territory but failed to convert that into points in the first quarter. Pirates fans were starting to lose their patience signaling for Gabuza to be substituted.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 34th minute, a Gabuza cross inside the eighteen yard area was turned into an own goal by Thivhavhudzi Ndou. Thamsanqa Gabuza then ran towards the crowd, took off his jersey and threw it to the Pirates fans, stormed off the field and headed down the tunnel.
Pirates were now down to 10 men as Gabuza did not return to the field of play. Upon his return midway through the second half with ice and taping on his knee, the referee brandished a double yellow for his celebration and one for leaving the playing area without permission. Sea Robbers were now officially down to 10 men.
That did not stop the visitors as they scored their second goal through Vincent Pule in the 64th minute. Black Leopards managed to score a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the second half.
Pirates managed to collect three points with a 2 – 1 win away from home.
